Turbine inlet valves are used for turbines and pumps for safety and shut-off purposes under high operating pressure. They are closed automatically because of the hydraulic counterweight return actuator without an outside source. Even in emergency situations, they are able to close even against unidirectional pressure at the maximum rate.
